Unlocking Talent: The Power of Recruitment Microsites
Microsites for recruitment are specialised, standalone web pages designed to attract and engage potential candidates by showcasing an organisation’s culture, job opportunities, application process, and more.

Our microsites, hosted on the www.workingforessex.com website, have proven to be one of our most successful talent attraction methods to date. They have seen widespread success of digital traffic and applications and enable our clients to share information about their team or projects in a way that promotes them as an employer of choice.
The brief
Our Talent Attraction Team were contacted by Essex Social Care Academy (ESCA), who had been referred to the team by Essex County Council’s communications department. Our client at ESCA was looking for somewhere they could host key information about their imminent ‘Step Up to Social Work’ campaign and offer candidates useful information that was not previously collated in one ‘handy’ spot.
Having our client detail what they had in mind immediately drew the team to suggest a campaign microsite – something we could display successful examples of and demonstrate the possibilities available to the service.
Building the microsite
With just one week before the campaign started, we provided a final draft in three days. Crucial to the build was the strategic placement of image assets and content, ensuring the site conveyed the right message with the appropriate tone.
We included staff testimonials because they allow potential candidates to hear directly from the people in the roles. We used bright imagery with joyful themes to enhance the atmosphere of the page, making it more inviting and engaging for visitors. Our previous findings and research show that these elements speak most when recruiting in the public sector. This reassured ESCA that their site was tailored to their brief to achieve the desired results.
Publishing and going live
Following a final review of the site, a ‘go live’ date was set.
We also developed a comprehensive plan alongside the build to ensure a smooth and well-coordinated launch. For example, we scheduled ‘go live’ announcements across our social media platforms.
Successes
- We designed and built a fully functional microsite within one week, surpassing the customer’s expectations for both deadline and budget.
- The site received over 650 unique views within a week following go-live and will play an important role in promoting the Step Up to Social Work campaign, an intensive, 14-month, full-time programme with a focus on child and family social work.
